The Fascinator Craze!
A huge buzz was created last summer when Kate Middleton, with her lady-like fashion savvy, wowed the public with one fabulous fascinator after another during the couple's royal tour. Fascinators had been steadily gaining ground in North American fashion circles for years but it was the celebrated Kate's obvious passion for them that tipped the balance and caused their popularity to soar. Lucky us!.
What defines a fascinator?
The term was coined because the pieces both "fascinate" us and "fasten" onto the head. Fascinators now come in every possible shape and style but all attach to the head by clips, combs, headbands, or with a thin elastic that slips under the hair at the back.
How are Fascinators Worn?
No hard rules apply - other than to AVOID placing it smack on top of your head, giving the appearance that you are "sprouting" from the top, instead, be creative in wearing them:
- experiment, you'll find that some pieces look good in a number of different positions
- angling is often critical to achieving the optimal look
- try the pieces forwards, backwards and on each side of the head (this can make a surprising amount of difference)
